Donna Mitchell

Donna Mitchell is an Almonte-based watercolour artist who likes to see detail in her paintings. Her style could be termed “modern realism.” Donna is inspired by life around her, through her own photographs, often taken on travels with her husband. Subjects range from architecture, landscapes, gardens, and streetscapes.
Donna sketched as a teen, with an interest in old buildings. In her early-30’s she graduated from Interior Design at Algonquin College. The program’s architectural component, along with the artistic side, brought her love of sketching and painting back into her life.
After retirement from Interior Design and Facility Management, she has focused her time on her art, a creative outlet she finds relaxing. She never aspired to sell her work, but family and friends encouraged her to show and sell.
Donna continues to take workshops, and classes to learn more about her favourite medium, and the advice most often given during these classes resonates: Keep painting and sketching every day.
