Clément Hoeck was hooked by the feel of clay and the pottery wheel’s calming effect while pursuing a fine arts program at the Cégep de l’Outaouais in 1996. He studied ceramics at Montréal’s Centre de Céramique Bonsecours and cabinet making and architectural carpentry at l’École québécoise du meuble. Clay has always called him back to the wheel. He now devotes his time to making pottery a viable business and livelihood.

From 2003 to 2005 and again in 2010 Hoeck lived in South Korea, immersing himself in their unique and historic ceramic culture.

Located in Campbell’s Bay, Quebec, Clément offers lessons covering all aspects of wheel-throwing. He works with high-fire stoneware and porcelain, using many glazes of Korean, Chinese and Japanese origin, fired to 1285 Celsius in oxidation.

“Through ceramics, I have brought with me the cultural influences of the places I have been. Working with clay, I am simply looking to create elegant pieces that stand on their own and bring joy in their use and add beauty to the everyday ritual.”
